Getting Started with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Ready to have your existing skills and experience recognised? Follow these steps to begin your RPL application at Brighten Institute Australia.

Step 1: Apply Now & Check Your Eligibility

Start by completing the online Enquire Now form on our website.

• Select the appropriate enquiry type, topic, and location from the drop-down menu.

• In the comment section, mention the course you’re interested in enrolling in.

A member of the Brighten Institute Australia team will reach out to discuss the units of competency you may be eligible to apply for through RPL.

Step 2: Submitting Your RPL Application

Once you’re enrolled in your course and confirmed as eligible for RPL, you’ll need to:

• • Complete the Enrolment Adjustment – Recognition of Prior Learning form

  • Attach all relevant supporting documents as evidence

  • Submit everything to your Head Trainer for assessment

Step 3: RPL Decision and Notification

You’ll be informed of the outcome of your RPL application within three weeks.
If approved, you’ll receive a transcript indicating the units granted through RPL.
If your application is not successful, you will have the opportunity to appeal the decision for a review.

Providing Evidence for Your RPL Application

To be considered for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at Brighten Institute Australia, you must submit evidence that demonstrates your current skills and knowledge align with the required competencies.

    • Committee roles or leadership in non-professional settings
  • Letters, References, and Resume
    Provide documents that validate your experience, such as:
    • Letters of validation from employers or supervisors
    • Endorsements from clients, colleagues, or community groups
    • Your up-to-date resume outlining your work history

Your supporting materials will help the Brighten Institute Australia assessor align your experience with the required units of competency. If more evidence is needed, we’ll contact you with further instructions.

Before submitting a formal appeal, we recommend speaking directly with the Head Trainer or the staff member who assessed your application to clarify any concerns.

If you wish to proceed with a formal appeal, you must contact your Head Trainer or the Student Administration Officer at your campus within 14 days of receiving your RPL outcome.

Getting Started with Credit Transfer

To begin the Credit Transfer process at Brighten Institute Australia, you will need to:

• • Complete the Enrolment Adjustment – Credit – Previous Studies form, and

  • Submit it to your Head Trainer for processing.

It’s strongly advised to apply for Credit Transfer as soon as you are enrolled and before your unit or course begins. This helps ensure smooth study planning and avoids unnecessary work.

Course Fees and Credit Transfer

If your Credit Transfer is approved, your course fee may be adjusted.
Please note that your eligibility for a reduced fee depends on:

• • Your student status (domestic or international), and

  • Whether you’ve received a subsidy or fee waiver.

If applicable, the amount of fee reduction will vary based on:

• • The number of units of competency approved for Credit Transfer, and

  • Your course’s fee structure.

Note: If you are granted 100% Credit Transfer, an administration fee of $250.00 will apply.

Providing Evidence for Credit Transfer

You are required to submit valid documentation to prove your eligibility for Credit Transfer.

If your previous studies were completed at Brighten Institute Australia, you must provide either:

• • Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) transcript, or

  • A Transcript of Academic Record issued by Brighten Institute Australia.

If your qualification was completed at another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), please submit either:

• • Your USI transcript, or

  • A verified Transcript of Academic Record from the original RTO.

Make sure to include verified copies of academic transcripts or original/certified copies of supporting documents.
All copies of original documents must be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP).

If you're submitting a USI transcript, you’ll need to give Brighten Institute Australia permission to verify it through your USI account.
