SG00007486 Introduction to Aged Care

Course overview

This short course has been designed specifically to meet the needs of young people, and especially school leavers, and applies to support workers in residential or community contexts.

Eligibility criteria

People undertaking training must meet the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and fit into the categories below:

  • 2021 school leavers, 16 years and over or

  • Other young people, aged 16-24, who are not in school

Eligible participants will also need to be:

  • living in NSW or working in NSW

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder.

Please note that all enrolled students under this program will need all relevant vaccinations in line with the requirements of the Aged Care sector.

Mode of delivery

This skill set is designed to be delivered both online and in the workplace combined.

Students will be provided access to an LMS where all interactive learning ands assessments are located.

Training Schedule

  • 20 hours per week of self-paced study and assessments

  • Four weeks / 80 hours in total

  • Students will need to be available for 1 week of work placement in an Aged Care facility.

Course fee

This training is subsidised by the New South Wales Government.

Course structure

There are 2 units of competency to complete.


Students who successfully complete all units of competency within this program will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

The units of competence within this skill set are recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
